Being at Open media has been very rewarding. I’ve learned how to use various editing software’s, cameras, lights, etc. The best thing that has really made the internship better is the people I get to meet and the opportunities I get offered. When I first got the internship I thought it would be all about the directing and cameras, I was wrong. It’s a little more broad then that. It is about the people and the community and how we can spread the news we make. The most important thing I’ve learned is that artists have no certain look. An artist can not be defined or characterized. There are so many different types of art and with that all different types of artists. When you work with tons of people like this you can’t be bias or judgmental in any way it’s impossible I would say. I also learned that art is not easy you will run into many barriers may that be people or yourself. You will face some challenge art is not some easy task. That is what my internship has taught me. It sucks that it is ending but I will take what I have learned and carry it with me the rest of my life.

In my internship I see a lot of people who could be seen as activists or people who stand up for what they believe in and try to get some type of change. Seeing that has really lit my artistic flame to where if I write a script or you know make a short video make it relate to the world and the many controversial things. I can then add my own twist and make it to where it can be cool and talk about real world problems. My ambitions and what I strive for has changed it use to be about the money but I know just want to do film and get my opinion out there through my work. The money is cool but if I have the smallest chance of impacting someone mentally then I will take that chance in a heart beat. One of the things that has changed is that I am doing more with film then just directing. I like to be in front of the camera, I like to edit, I like to plan it, etc. These things are helping me become a better director. When you learn to do everything and know all of the aspects of what goes into a good film it really makes you a better a around director.

So far haven’t really planned out my internship inspired project but I have the concept just don’t have the time I guess the internship is kind of a full-time thing with school and work I don’t have any really free time to work on it. I will make some time so that I can put all my ambitions into a video. I thought the conversation about my project with my sponsor but it was very vague and brief it wasn’t very detailed mainly what I’ve been working on his mainly editing all the stuff for the studio I don’t really work on any personal project and the studio is always doing something so that’s always with it and it’s not really something I can do right now. I do want to do a project but if I’m not able to I think I’ll just make a collage or something about the stuff I worked on or helped with but I really want to make my own project but if I can’t then there’s always the plan b. My internship to use really expensive film equipment really high and editing equipment and editing software so I can just do whatever really but it’s also a new station so I could go the other route what kind of like making my own news video or broadcast and have that be my project I mean it’s really getting to the point where I have to figure something out or be out of luck. I can’t really say that my relationship has gotten any better with my sponsor when talking about my project because we never talk about my project it’s not like they don’t want to talk about it it’s just there’s so much going on at the moment but it’s not really as subjects to touch on there’s always something to do always busy and stuff. Not planned my project I have the concept of the video and stuff I don’t really have the materials but that’s an easy fix it’s just I need the time the free time so I can work on the project and not have any distractions because I really want a good inspired project and I have all the tools just not enough time but I’ll figure it out I always do. I’m going to see if this next week or so if I can get some time if not I’m going to just work on something else a little more easier and see if that works see if my sponsor can accept that hopefully they do.

The difference between working in working in a creative business and working on personal art projects is that often you have to work on someone else’s stuff and a creative business but when it comes to personal problems you can have creative freedom. While working at open media I have often had to work on other people’s projects I haven’t really been able to work on any personal project but in the same since you still get a little bit of creative freedom good when you’re editing or something it’s all up to you to make it look good stuff you can kind of put it together nicely. But just like personal project you still have to have that creativity you can’t just treat it like it’s a math worksheet you have to come in at it at a different angle and apply that creativity to someone else’s project as well. Also you gain experience in you better at stuff when you work on other people’s stuff you getting all the tools and knowledge that you can apply to your stuff so that your stuff is just as good. Other than that there’s no real difference besides the fact that you’re working on someone else’s stuff I mean you still have to be creative you still have to think outside the box it’s not like you just completely doing something different you just have to work on something that’s not necessarily yours. While I’m at my internship I really don’t mind it it helps me gain knowledge it helps me get better at certain testing tools and stuff so I don’t mind. As long as it helps me get better at what I want to do.

In the work place people generally treat me pretty good. At first when I was brand new it wasn’t the best place but that comes with beings. You feel out of place. You just feel like no one really understands you but when you gain experience you connect with everyone and you don’t feel so out of place. If someone else were to intern and I was the one with experience and they were the new person I would try to break the ice fairly quick because I know how it feels to be in that situation and how it feels to be the new person. So far from my co-workers I have learned basically do things as fast as you can as detailed as you can and that’s precisely as you can because we’re working at Denver open media I work with a lot of expensive equipment so I have to be really detailed when it comes to that because if I have one slight mess up then it cost money. From my sponsor I’ve learned basically the same stuff add it on that you could possibly get paid for doing what you’re doing and to be as professional as possible which is a given. One of the major things is just to have fun don’t think of it such as a tedious task or something that’s like a chore think of it is funny I mean we’re working with film equipment and stuff like that if you don’t want to do it don’t be an intern basically if you want to do it then it should come easy it should just be fun on top of knowledge.

So far I really like my internship it is very smooth and easy paced most of the time. Some highlights are that now people consult me on how the film should be or how we should order something when editing. There are no “low-lights” I make the most of what usually comes my way when it comes to bad situations. Like we had gone out and interviewed lots of people on the streets of the Sante Fe Art District and some of the shots came out bad. So instead of getting mad we went out and got more interviews and kept the project going. As far as making connections with My co-workers they are pretty cool I actually talk to some of them outside of the workplace so that’s pretty good. No complaints, nothing bad to say at all. If I wanted to improve my experience I would probably just have to be a little more creative and start coming up with my own projects outside of the workplace. If I did that I am almost certain that my time there would be better and I would enjoy myself 100%. Right now I work on other’s work and edit it for them and that”s cool, but I would much rather be working on my own videos and projects. That might be one low light of the internship, no creative room. No ability to work on my own stuff. It is all good though, I will make the sweetest lemonade from these lemons life has handed me.

Some of my Main responsibilities at Denver Open Media are very big or at least to me. I have to check out equipment to people sometimes which is a very detailed procedure. First, you have to log on to the website and click this tab on the top that says reservations. There is always a long list of names with various equipment. So lets say Tim Duncan has a reservation for 5 items, A camera, a tripod, a special lens, an SD card, lighting equipment. If its at the top of the list and it is being picked up at 9 and it is 7 then we prepare that order first. We check everything slowly and critically. We then take down the skew for all of the equipment, also some of these things we house in the studio are thousands of dollars. After all the preparing is done they come in sign a contract and take the equipment with them and return it the next day or so. That is one of the biggest contributions I have at Denver Open Media. That is what a Saturday usually looks like, Wednesdays are very chill and youth oriented. Which means I’m just in the youth group and do what they do.

My actions play a sort of big role in the workplace. They trust me a lot with a lot of important things such as scheduling shows and expensive equipment. If I happen to mess up just once just once everything can fall out of place. I could schedule the wrong show at the wrong time and now the whole schedule is out of whack. In the work place I would say I contribute positively. Most of the time I am working by myself but when I do work with others I do contribute a good deal of information that could help us in some positive way. My co-workers actions do affect me a great deal just the same as mine affect them. If they do something wrong it affects everyone else and vice versa. It’s much like being in an actual work place. Out of all the people who work there I would say Andrew and Richard are the people who I have connected most with. Besides the fact I’ve gone to school with Andrew for a year now also we just have a lot in common and as for Richard he’s around my age so we like most of the same things such as sports and stuff. Surprisingly, most of the people there bond over things outside of the studio like they don’t bond over a project they bond over things such as the broncos or cars but rarely have I found people bond and become friends from the projects we work on in there. It is quite hard not to make friends there though because everyone has such bubbly attitudes. The time is going faster then I expected but I am enjoying it.

So this was week two at my internship. The best thing that happened at my internship was that sometimes things will not go the way you want. Often in the real world things are not as black and white also thing they are. They are grey, some things go your way and some things don’t, but it is my responsibility even if something goes bad to never back track and end up in a bad place. It made me feel like I can make I in the big world and that no matter what happens I will keep moving forward. I also learned how to edit on adobe premiere pro which is like the top of the line software. I felt like a real person in the film industry editing film and consulting people about the order the film should be in and it just felt great. I felt like for a split second that I had made it. I had also learned how to check people’s equipment out. That part was boring but seeing all the stuff they had was awesome they have this camera the Sony F7000 that is like the best camera I’ve ever seen. I after the short 4 hour shift, felt accomplished, ambitious, and proud. Not many people in my family can have the opportunity to do something like this. On a side note the station director has a cute dog name fire fox who got lost and she made us drop everything to look for him. The best part is that she is this tough chick and it surprised me when she got emotional about her dog. Learn something new everyday.

My First week at Denver Open Media was bitter sweet. I had already been there five months before my internship officially started so I knew everybody. So when I became an intern officially a lot was expected of me. None the less I enjoyed it.I learned how to edit with adobe premier pro which is one of the most elite programs there is even big movie studios use it. I also learned people will come together under lots of pressure an get things done. One thing that surprised me is that people are always busy no one ever gets a break. If you aren’t doing they will find something for you to do. No one gets to just sit around. So far I have met a lot of people. There is John an Shannon who are the people who oversee my internship. There is Ann who runs the whole place or a large portion of it and also is the head of the youth group. There is Ivy, Phil, an Richard who are already interns. On my first day on the site they taught me how to check equipment out for people who have made reservations. I also learned from them how to edit the website of DOM. There are also kids in the youth group. You have Grey who is one of the most experienced of the group second in line is Paulina who is very good at the best at animation. I didn’t change how I acted when I got the internship. I did not code switch. I stayed the same. Or to myself I did maybe I did code switch and didn’t realize it. 8/29/16
