Blog question #1:
What did you learn from your first week at your internship? Did anything surprise you? Who did you meet and what do they do? Did you engage in any code switching?
What I learned from my first week at Colorado Ballet is that everyone here communicates with one another. They also give each other ideas and the best part is that they also all get along! I love working with people who are easy to talk to. I also learned about the wardrobe where all the costumes are stored in, and i found this very intriguing because of all the colors and because I couldn’t stop imagining myself from getting to dance in it.
The only thing that surprised me about my internship was that how big the building really is! it has lot of studious, some bigger than the others.
I met my sponsor Samantha Hyde. She is the Director of Education in Colorado ballet, where she reaches out to communities trying to engage them into learning about creative movement. I did not engage in any code switching.
Blog question #2:
What was the best thing that happened this week at your internship? How did it make you feel? What else makes you excited about your internship?
The best thing that happened at my internship on week two was that i got to talk to my sponsor on ways I can give to the community and how to reach out to them. I also went to a training class so I can learn how to interact with smaller children, I also learned cute little songs and small fun dances to show to them. It made me feel great! Because i was learning new ways to engage children in activities that involved creative movement and ballet. I like seeing children faces light up with excitement when they finally realize they’re doing something awesome and creative and they know that they are enjoying it. What else makes me excited about my internship is that I will be assisting with Dracula this year! I will learn how to do the Figaro, I will also do a training day and get paid 30 a show. This makes me extremely excited.

How do your actions affect your workplace? Do you contribute positively? How do your co-workers actions affect your internship? Which co-workers are you connecting with?
My actions don’t really affect my workplace. I guess im pretty sweet to my co-workers but that doesnt do anything. Im always really nice in my workplace because I believe everyone deserves to be nice too. My co-workers actions makes me enjoy my internship because they are all very kind. I am mostly connecting with my co-worker Samantha Hyde. Rowan is also my co-worker at the school i work with, with assisting in teaching. But other than that its going just peachy.

What are you responsible for at your workplace? What do you think is your main contribution to your work site? What do your day to day duties look like?
I am responsible for important files and going to meetings. I am also responsible for live streams and posting on our social media pages about whats going on in the dance community or in special events! I think my main contribution on my work site is showing how Colorado Ballet is great and what kind of good things I gained from it. My Day to day duties right at the moment are looking at all the data from last years live streams from the shows Dracula and The Nutcracker. Then I color code the States that have watched only Dracula or Nutcracker or both. Then I color a map. After that I post stuff on social media.

How do you feel like your internship is going so far? What are the highlights and the “lowlights”? Do you feel like you are making connections with your co-workers? What can you do to improve your experience?
I feel like my internship is going pretty good so far!! A couple of rough days when i have to drive to my internship and there is tons of traffic and when i have to go back home after my internship which also means the highways are still packed! The highlights of my internship is that I get to meet all the company dancers, amazing workers, and I also get to learn new things such as the figaro, they pay me $30 a show. I do feel like im making connections with my coworkers. They are all very nice to me and let me know whats going on and sometimes tell me about the drama in their life and such. It makes me feel very welcomed. Something i can do to improve my experience is that I wish that I had an excuse to go there more. Colorado Ballet is just so beautiful, it also has very good vibes and good people. I like surrounding myself with good people, people i can learn stuff from to improve and better myself as a human being.

How do people at work treat you? How does it make you feel? If you have in intern one day will you treat them the same? What have you learned so far from your co-workers and sponsor?
People at my internship treat me with respect so far. My sponsor Samantha Hyde is very nice and patient. Having her by my side makes me really happy because i know i can rely on her when i have a question about something shes making me work on. She was really there when I was learning how to work the Figaro, that was pretty difficult to learn about! If i had an intern for just one day i would treat them with respect just as long as they respect me and appreciate the awesome opportunity. What have learned so far from my sponsor ( I spend most of my time with only her.) is that being kind and patient with someone comes in handy. People automatically treat you with respect and are actually easier to talk to and get to know them better. I also learned to make everything fun in anyway you can so then you can learn to love your job.

What is the difference between working on personal art projects and working in a creative business? What have you learned about working in a creative business?
The difference with working on a personal art project and a creative business is that I get to focus on myself ad what I can do to show people what I have learned from here with expressing it through movement. Working in a creative business is different because I follow a schedule and I make time for working for a company instead of working for myself. I have learned many amazing things working in a creative business! I’ve learned how to manage some stage stuff for Colorado Ballet, I also learned to help with their shows. Things that stuck with me was that I made connections with professional adults. I know I can rely with them for any professional business. I LOVE working here and I will never forget the memories I made here. Colorado Ballet is just beautiful with the dancers and the shows, especially the people who are working so hard behind the scenes.

How is your internship project going? Describe the progress of your project. How did the conversation about your project go with your sponsor? (If you haven’t discussed the project with your sponsor yet, how do you plan to do so?) Did they have good insights into how to improve or expand the project? How does your project bridge what you do at your internship and what you like to create for yourself? Has your relationship with your sponsor evolved as you have engaged in a creative dialogue about your project? Art there any challenges you are experiencing planning or doing your project?
My Internship project is going okay so far! I Have recently started choreography that I hope will give people chills and make them want to dance with me. Me and sponsor didn’t talk about my project proposal in person but through text instead. Me and Samantha brain stormed about different ways I can make a project here, she gave me ideas that her previous interns did. I liked all the ideas but I wanted to stand out so both of us decided that I can make a project of me dancing. Me and sponsor Samantha have always had an amazing connection since the very beginning because we have similar tastes and both of us are very nice people who like to meet new people. No there is no changes I want to do with my project yet.

What have you seen or experienced in your internship that has inspired you the most on your own artistic journey? Has this experience changed your artistic ambitions? How?
I Have seen Samantha Hyde my sponsor talk to other professional adults in a very professional way. I also see her make new connections with other schools who can potentially be apart of Leap n Learn. This inspires me to make connections with other adults, dance studios, or other dance companies. I love being in a work place that involves dance! Especially when it is ballet. This experience has changed my artistic ambitions because it makes me fall in love with ballet over and over again, I love how strict and precise everything has to be, even when you are working behind the scenes.

Has this experience been a rewarding one for you? Why or Why not (keep it positive, if you had negative experiences, focus on what you learned- make yourself look good!)? How has the reality of your internship matched or contrasted with your expectations? What is the most important learning you did during your internship?
This experience is something I would like to go back to in like 10 years. Most of my internship has flew by but sometimes there rough days when there wasn’t much to do anymore. My expectations were blew out of proportion. I was expecting to be more involved with taking some classes at my internship so that I can become a more experienced and better dancer. One of the most important things I’ve learned from my internship was learning how to actually communicate better with adults and learning how to make strong connections with professional people/ adults.
